Storage units have been around for what seems like forever. They aren’t the most glamorous places to be, but they certainly fulfill the absolute need we have. For most people, they can’t throw things away. It is just impossible. Whether they believe it is worth something and they have no room to keep it, or they are merging households and don’t want to bring sentimental things into the home, there are tons of reasons someone might want to use a storage facility. Check out these top reasons, and why you should consider getting one too.

Moving

Perhaps the top reasons to choose a personal storage unit are out of the necessity of moving. Maybe your new home isn’t ready, but you need out of your current place. Yes, you can stay in a hotel, but that isn’t going to do you much good for storing a three-bedroom house. In these cases, renting a unit is only temporary, for a month or less. Storage facilities often have a month to month rental rates specifically for situations like this.

Downsizing

Downsizing a home can be a great way to save money on living expenses and get into a place that accommodates your needs more. However, with downsizing comes the unfortunate, “What are we going to do with this?” argument. If you can’t agree or you don’t want to get rid of something, a storage unit is a great place to put it. This takes the stress out of trying to find a new location in your home for it to fit, without the sadness of throwing something away you want to keep.

Lost job/home no place for household goods

If you lost your job, and consequently are losing your home, a storage unit can be a saving grace to not losing all your stuff. Storage facilities are typically not that expensive and make great choices for those in a sticky predicament like losing a job or home. However, if you don’t make the payment on your storage unit, you can end up losing your items too.

Overflow of items from your house

Are you a closeted shopper? Do you have too much in your home? While some might consider this hoarding, you might be taking advantage of some great deals. That’s okay; no one’s here to judge. A storage unit can provide an excellent place for you to store items that don’t fit in your home, or if you decide to reduce the clutter.
