Such a day has come when there are more diseases than there are cures. It would be a back-breaking job (no pun intended) to find someone who doesn’t suffer from some form of chronic pain. Be it autoimmune, or bad posture or long hours of sitting in front of the computer, everyone these days either has a back pain or a headache or stiffness while moving the neck.

With raging side effects of conventional medicine circling the market, more and more people are looking for alternative ways to deal with the problems. While marijuana might have had earned a bad reputation in the earlier days, these days the plant has been working hard to make amends.

Medicinal marijuana has been the topic of discussion among the medical communities in the past few years. While there has been significant media hype surrounding the small plant, it has yet to reach a global status. Although medical cannabis clinic has started popping up recently, the instances are far and few between. The primary reason that has held it back from establishing itself as a global cure is lack of research and a definite answer from the scientific community. While some people hail it as the miracle cure, others are still skeptical about it. The lack of understanding about the plants and its benefits has led to a widespread ban on the substance.

Media too has started cashing on the hype of the plant. From cancer to Ebola, it has been dubbed as the miracle cure for all kinds of diseases. It is advisable to visit a medical cannabis clinic or a certified doctor who can give you expert advice.

While marijuana may not cure cancer per se, it is great at relieving the side effects that come along with the disease, especially after chemotherapy. Cannabis has been found to reduce pain, nausea and certain forms of swelling. It also helps revive appetite in patients undergoing cancer treatments.

Marijuana’s most drastic effects have been documented in managing pain problems like a chronic backache, headache, spondylitis, sciatica or other muscle pain. Marijuana has also been found beneficial in treating insomnia.

Medical research on the effect of marijuana on glaucoma also has revealed positive results. It is also used as an alternative remedy for tinnitus or ringing in the ear.

Our ancestors too were no stranger to the medicinal uses of the plant. Extracts from the cannabis plant were used as a mild anesthetic.

More research is needed to know about the true extent of the benefits of cannabis. With the limited research that is available to us presently, it cannot be denied that marijuana truly has some potential in replacing conventional pain and anxiety medicines. However, caution must be taken while using the plant for medicinal purposes. It is advisable to buy the product only from reputable medical cannabis clinic with a proper prescription from a certified doctor. Inaccurate doses can lead to serious adverse effects. Additionally, people who have had a history of addiction should avoid using the plant directly or indirectly due to its potential addictive quality.
