Falling in love is something we all look forward to doing. It doesn't matter what a person looks like, their personality, or even where they live. Everyone is different, and who we choose to fall in love with shouldn't be bound by distance. Those that fall in love with someone in a different country will experience different hardships. Overcoming these obstacles can be quite a challenge; as seen on the hit TV show 90 Day Fiance, there are many things to learn about getting together, getting married, all while overcoming tremendous distances.

It is true that international couples will face more difficulties than those that live right down the road from one another. Let's take a look at some of the long-term complications you'll discover when dating someone outside the country.

Traveling

It's all fun and games when it comes to travel. However, long plane rides, packing, and the cost can often be quite an obstacle no matter how dead set you are on seeing your special someone. Traveling can also have issues now due to Covid-19. You may be stuck in places, having to have a vaccination, or having to test a negative. If you were to contact covid while abroad, you may be stuck and unable to return home.

Money

Unless you're a multi-millionaire, money is going to be a challenge. Often, frequent trips to see your special someone and or bringing them over for a visit can pose a unique set of challenges. You'll need to require a passport, travel accommodations, and more.

Getting Married

A K Visa is the only way to marry your special someone in the United States. You'll need to file an advance for a K1 visa. These take quite a while to receive as well. You're looking at a four to six-week processing time with up to six months for a response. This time, you can get prepared by putting back money or helping to plan for the wedding. Once your fiance arrives in the states, you'll have only 90 days to marry them. Ninety days may seem like a long time, but to plan a wedding and get everything organized can be quite the undertaking.

Final Thoughts

Whether you're dating for fun or dating to get married, international couples will face more challenges overall. This shouldn't be something to stand in the way of you pursuing a relationship; just know that there will be obstacles along the way. If you intend to marry, you'll also have to go through the K1 visa process.
