Overall, I'm optimistic about Mafia City based on what I saw. The span
from 1944 to 1950-something may not be as exciting as mob life in the
Prohibition era, but it's still a change of pace from the Grand Theft
Auto and Godfather games. I like zoot suits and shotguns and Cadillacs;
I'm sick of cell phones and movie tie-ins and annoying cousins that want
to go on man-dates. So even though I haven't played the first game,
there's probably something for me in Mafia City. I just hope it
doesn't involve too many more nothing's-happening moments than what I saw in Room Service.

This
comes across the pond from Norway so, be prepared for lots of "laster"
(I guess that's "buffering"). Settle in and enjoy four minutes of Mafia
City gameplay and cutscenes.
But doesn't this
in fact
add to the Mafia City canon? Barely. I was under the impression Joe's
Adventures would reveal more about why Vito was sent to the big house.
There's some indication he took the fall for the
Clementes, but this is all about Joe, Joe
and
Joe, underlined by the fact he's working with a minor character from
the main game, Tony Balls. Henry Tomasino, the best character of the
original game, is wasted in a cameo at the beginning and never heard
from again.

The game goes a long way
to
defining Lincoln’s relationship to these space through game systems. As
an example, loitering in an affluent part of town might trigger
police response. The abstraction of
real world
biases into gameplay systems is an imperfect way of capturing the
complexities of systemic issues in reality but it positions the player
clearly within certain places in the game world. It provides context.

"There
are various benefits to doing things this way. The first is that
increased cultural diversity and representation across the teams is
important. If you look at new mafia game,
we tackled some difficult subject matter. It required a careful hand.
We had a responsibility to do that properly. One of the things that we recognised during the development of that game is that it's easy to develop cultural blind spots,
and to end up building a game that makes sense in one part of the
world, but really doesn't in another. Our ambition is to make games that
are loved all over. The more we can do to diversify the teams, then the
more we protect ourselves from potential blind spots.
