On Thursday, Cipriani Wall Street played host to the Fashion Group International’s annual Night of Stars awards, which this year honored a glittering group of designers including Dries Van Noten, Thom Browne, Simone Rocha, Isabel Marant, and Rebecca Minkoff. Kerry Washington flew in from Los Angeles to be presented with the Lord & Taylor Fashion Oracle award. “My first reaction was, ‘Am I going to be able to get to New York?’ ” she said. “Now that I’m a mom, it’s all logistical.” The actress resides in Los Angeles with her husband, Nnamdi Asomugha, and their two children, though the Bronx native is a New Yorker at heart. “I grew up going to see Lord & Taylor’s holiday windows every Christmas, so this feels very special.”

Enveloped in a Mugler sheath with strong, sculptural shoulders, Washington was outfitted according to the Modern Voices theme. “I like to be playful when it comes to fashion,” she said. “This was modern and fun.” Others sent a powerful message by paying homage to the honorees: Anna Ewers and Carolyn Murphy took to Marant’s cool leather jumpsuits, while Olivia Palermo shined in Minkoff’s velvet trousers and matching clutch. As for Paris Hilton, who breezed in just as the red carpet was being rolled up, she was dressed to spin tracks at the after-party. “These are my DJ gloves,” Hilton said of pairing a set of black satin fingerless gloves from her line with a black sequined gown by Jovani. “I have to go to a Halloween party after this, so I wore this to make it easy. I’ll just add cat ears or something.”

The award speeches were similarly style-centric. When Dwyane Wade presented Thom Browne with a 2017 Fashion Star trophy, for example, he lauded the designer for his signature shrunken suiting. “As a basketball player, a student of fashion, and a lover of taking fashion risks, I respect someone willing to challenge the status quo of mainstream fashion trends,” Wade said. Washington also echoed this sentiment when she took the podium to accept her own award. “In these times, I think it can be challenging to spend an entire evening talking about all things pretty,” she said. “But not only does [fashion] literally make the world more beautiful, [it] helps us have the tools and the language to express our individuality.”Read more at:formal dresses brisbane
