Looking for a new email account? Try out Outlook.com. All you need is to provide your name and birthday, and you'll have a new email account for usage. Along with your newly created email id, you'll have access to POP as well as unlimited internet storage. Outlook is a speedy email service, which is easy to navigate and free to use. But the method of setting up an Outlook account is hardly known to most internet users:-

Setting up the Outlook email

Step 1

Click on the file tab and to find the Add Account option. Click on it to set up a new email id. If you already have an existing account and want to add more connections, then go the account settings. There you will find a change settings option for this current account. Skip ahead to step 4, to know more about modifying an already existing account. If any problem persists, dial the outlook technical support number for help.

Step 2

On the next dialog box, click on the manual setups or additional server types and click on the next button to move ahead to the next step.

Step 3

Out of the three choices in the next box choose the POP or IMAP button. Click next to continue.

Step 4

If you are modifying an email account that has already been configured before on Outlook, click on the name of the account and then click the change button. Skip to step 5 if you are not editing an existing account.

Note – To avoid any sort of data loss please be careful while changing the connection type of the email account or deleting the account.

Step 5

Fill up the following details in the next general settings option

  • Your name – Type in the name as you want it to appear in your sent emails.
  • Email address – Provide the full email id
  • Account Type – Depending on your preference choose either POP3 or IMAP. It keeps the email in sync in different devices.
  • Incoming mail server – for non-SSL settings use the following mail.yourdomainname.com and for SSL settings use the hostname of the server host.yourdomainname.com
  • SMTP – same as the previous step depending upon the choice of settings
  • Username – It should be your full email id.
  • Password – The password for your email account
  • SPA – This option must not be checked as it is not the same as SMTP authentication.

Step 6

Configure the Outgoing Server settings, fill up the advanced settings and click next to arrive at the final step for test configuration.

Step 7

After connecting to the server, the configuration is tested. If you are using SSL settings, a pop-up showing warning may emerge. Click on the yes button to certify it and allow Outlook to proceed towards testing the connection settings. Once you see the success message, you’ll be ready to use your new email address for Outlook 2016.

Outlook has its share of set-up complications but once completed the above steps; it is a much easier email tool than others.
